Rentals

We offer a rental program providing high-quality instruments and service to the South Puget Sound area. Our rental instruments are of a quality consistent with the high standards for which we are known - well cared for and set up properly, making for a far more positive learning experience.

Learning to play is a greatly personalized affair - our staff have the expertise necessary to match the student with an appropriate instrument.

Rentals are primarily handled out of our shop in Tacoma, but we also have options for those closer to the Seattle/Renton area. Please contact us at the shop, or Ricardo Pérez directly for more information.

Our Rental Services

  • Violins (all sizes):  $35 per month

Violas (all sizes): $40 per month

Cellos (all sizes): $60 per month

State sales tax will be included with monthly rental fees.

All instrument rentals include a matching bow & case.

Our instruments are initially rented for a three-month starting period, and monthly thereafter. There is no prorated refund for early return of an instrument.

Additionally, a refundable damage deposit is also required at the time of initial rental. This deposit is $75 for violins & violas, or $100 for cellos.

  • Rental costs do not include insurance, and do not cover accidental or deliberate damage to instruments or the replacement of broken strings. They do cover such things as bow rehairs, open seams, and sticking or slipping pegs.

All repairs of rental instruments and bows must be done through Applebaum Violin Shop.

  • Our rental program offers credit towards the purchase of either the instrument & outfit you're renting, or an upgrade to another purchasable instrument or the same type.

100% of the first 12 months' rental fees may be applied to the purchase.

  • If you purchase an instrument from the shop, and later wish to trade it in for a larger size or a different instrument, you will receive 75% of the original purchase price of the instrument as credit towards the new one (depending on condition of the trade-in).

If you purchase an instrument of at least twice the original value of the trade-in, you will receive 100% of the original price as a credit towards the new one (depending on condition).

Bows and cases are treated on a case-by-case basis.
